So happy to start things up again with a look at WHITE MAGIC. White magic is ill-defined and usually only brought up as a counter to black magic.

So what is it?

And why is it vital to get in touch with it in a time of the undeniable reemergence of the spiritual in everyday life?

I begin generating a definition of white magic with an exploration of the voyage of Saint Brendan, as well as my encounters with him and his holy well in Co. Kerry.

This is a very different sort of episode for me, but one I think is important in the face of the proliferation of other sorts of magic that are not white magic – whether it’s chaos magic, witchcraft, new age manifesting, magical accoutrement like horoscopes and tarot, or just positive thinking –  in popular, political, and even economic spaces.

Are these other forms of magic actually “spiritual?” Or are they just materialism in disguise?

How does white magic move beyond spiritual materialism?
