Friends,
Money is a way in which we are all connected – an expression of the intertwining of humanity. So when we ask ourselves questions about money, often they can bring other questions: particularly about how each of us as an individual relates everybody else.

Often this journey, from the individual to the all, the me to the multitude, has the feeling of walking an infinite loop. Perhaps we start by worrying about ourselves and our ability to make enough money in challenging times; as we continue, we find ourselves needing justifications for why we should make money, why we deserve to make it; then we find ourselves rounding a curve into feelings of guilt, since there are so many others in need; then we’re back in our own needs and wants’ in other words, we’re right back where we started.

All of this is exacerbated when world events that seem intense to us rise up.

If time is money, when we live in turbulent times, we will experience money as turbulence.

Having plenty of money is no guarantee that the passage with be smoother. Perhaps the challenges will come in different ways, or be less immediate, but it’s impossible to deny that they are there and can be frustrating or frightening.

I’ve had people who hire me for consultation and guidance talk about their acute awareness that, in making large amounts of money, they feel a separation from others. In these cases, often the only option they feel they have is to unplug from the world, to use money as an escape hatch from connection. That generally leaves people feeling out of touch in a way that sooner or later becomes intolerable. And if they somehow manage to use their money to block out compassion and togetherness, they can even end up making the world more divided; which will eventually compound the problems they themselves face.

On this episode, I talk with money teacher PILAR LESKO about how to find a smooth pathway to money; how to come to an equanimity in relationship with it; and how to embrace the bumpy, bending path it can take us on through time and into our connection with others.

May this help guide you, friends,
CH
