I offer two services for writers: my MANUSCRIPT CONSULTATION and my WRITER’S ASSESSMENT, two powerful tools to orient you to your writing life.

MANUSCRIPT CONSULTATION
VITAL, INSIGHTFUL REVIEW OF AND FEEDBACK ON WRITING PROJECTS THAT ARE COMPLETED OR APPROACHING COMPLETION
When a manuscript is finished or nearing completion, a new experience arises: the sense of it moving into the realm of the public.
Before it goes there, it needs the right reader to help it be the best book it can be.
Whether this manuscript is going to be your first book or your third bestseller, it should be ready to face readers, to inspire new conversations and thoughts, and to bring insight and emotions to the world.
In other words, it will need to stand on its own so that it can meet others.
My MANUSCRIPT CONSULTATION offers attentive and serious consideration to your work that will usher your manuscript into its finest form.
How does it work?
When you sign up, you’ll receive an email and initiation form from me within 48 hours. The form will have a few questions in it. You’ll respond to that with your manuscript (up to 250 pages – for more, please also buy the MANUSCRIPT CONSULTATION ADD-ON at the time of initial purchase).
The manuscript does not need to be finished, just well on its way. I will accept work that is past the imagined or proposed middle of the book.
We’ll schedule a meeting based on the length of your manuscript and how long I will need to spend with it. Most manuscripts require 1-3 weeks from the delivery of/reply to the Initiation Form.
We’ll meet for 90-120 minutes, and engage with your manuscript. This will include
- Overall and chapter-by-chapter (or section-by-section) review
- Big and little picture comments
- Recognizing patterns in the writing that are holding the manuscript back or helping it succeed
- Addressing the strengths of the manuscript
- Seeing where your book will fit in the market
- Discussing structural concerns, narrative flow, readability
- In fiction, consider character development + In non-fiction, consider emotional resonance with real people and events
- Answering questions like, What have you missed? What might readers see that you as the writer can’t? What deserves more space on the page? What deserves less?
- Come up with a real timeline for a final pre-publication or pre-agented draft
During and/or after our meeting, I’ll send you any resources and exercises that I think might help.
Our meeting will always be aimed towards how you can work with the depths and surfaces of what you have. And if you believe it does need a major revamp, we’ll discuss how to go about editing in a way that preserves the vitality of your manuscript, so that you don’t go down a wrong path as you approach the revision.

WRITER’S ASSESSMENT
REAL FEEDBACK ON YOUR WRITING WORK, PRACTICES, GOALS…WHEREVER YOU ARE IN YOUR WRITING LIFE
A question that plagues most writers, from their very first attempts to write, to after they’ve published a New York Times bestseller:
Is what I’ve written any good?
Writers ask this question at different times in their career and in different ways:
- “My friends/partner/writing group/peers/Mom said they liked it, but are they just being nice?”
- “Is this as good as my last essay/story/book/play/screenplay?”
- “How do I look at my own work and know?”
- “Do I have talent or have I just fooled people, including myself?”
The solution to these common but daunting questions is simple: You need a writer’s assessment from an experienced impartial professional.
My WRITER’S ASSESSMENT offers a friendly, encouraging, critical overview of your writing, your writing practices, and your goals.
When you hire me for a Writer’s Assessment session, you’ll gain an understanding what you’re good at, what writing muscles you need to strengthen, and where you’ve been getting in your own way; all without feeling like you’ve just been pushed down a long staircase of criticism.
How does it work?
Sign up here, and you’ll receive an email and Initiation Form from me within 48 hours. The form will have a few guiding questions, and a calendar link to schedule your meeting.
Before we meet I’ll read a sample of your work.
(It can be from 1-25 pages.)
We’ll meet for 90-120 minutes, engage with your sample, the questions I’ve sent along; and have a conversation about goals, the market, and your writing practices.
During and/or after our meeting, I’ll send you any resources and exercises that I think might help.

- Any writing project
- Your writing career overall
