Conner Habib/Young Turks/Chap Traphouse Form A Sexy Political Voltron

26 Jul

Friends, I’m on Chapo Trap House (the biggest socialist media outlet in the US), talking about sex workers’ rights and why the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA), also known as the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act (SESTA), have been disastrous for sex worker safety and livelihood.

And I’m also getting political with The Young Turks – By having their handsomest superstar, Hasan Pike on Against Everyone with Conner Habib!

Me + Hasan Piker from the Young Turks, connect our political and emotional development. Hasan is smart, hedonistic, and compassionate.

We talk about bullying, the hyper-regulation of culture, enthusiastic consent,  why the context of someone’s entire body of work and life matters, Roseanne, Jon Ronson, the nightmare of straight men/straight women relational dynamics, and what we can do to improve the world.

As always, the show notes are available for patrons of my patreon!

Me + Moshe Kasher talk about a lot of terrible things in a very funny way. It’s AEWCH 27!

Friends, one of the reasons why I love this episode of Against Everyone with Conner Habib is pretty simple: I love talking with comedian and author Moshe Kasher. He’s one of those rare wide-ranging thinkers who is also warm, and very funny.
Moshe and I talk about doing drugs, what it’s like to belong nowhere, why comedians are not philosophers, growing up poor, how I defiled waffles as a teenager, why Call Me By Your Name is a horrible movie, Moshe getting off with gay dudes on the phone, how MeToo is partially a reflexive backlash to trans rights, and gurus.

Hello friends,

You, like me, may be worn out by identity, identity, identity. There is an identity industry around us. And yet, we also feel and know that out racial, sexual, gender, class, (and on and on) identities play a part in shaping our experiences. But how? And what sort of attention should we pay them? Luckily, Asad Haider, author of Mistaken Identity: Race and Class in the Age of Trump and founder of Viewpoint Magazine, is here to help!

Asad and I had a great conversation in his book-filled office at University of Santa Cruz. There’s a little weirdness with the audio on my end, but it’s still pretty much okay. Just turn the bass down and the treble up a bit. You’ll still love it.

The show notes, with links to Bollywood films, Lacan enduring the situationist heckling, essays I wrote about growing up in small town PA and more are all here.

SELFIE POLITICS: on SJWs, MAGA bros, and iPhones – It’s ep 7 of AGAINST EVERYONE with CONNER HABIB!

15 Sep

Episode 7 of AGAINST EVERYONE with CONNER HABIB: SELFIE POLITICS or NATIONS OF IDENTITY is about how identity politics have emerged into a world where a changing sense of self is taking place.
So while identity politics offer us a lot, there are also dangers there if we don’t include the changing sense of self in our perspectives. I touch on the dreaded and celebrated SJW (social justice warrior), selfies, social media, varieties of racism, and more.

(PS: Sorry to say there’s a wee bit of a sound issue on this one: a slight echo. If you keep the volume at the right level, it’s fine. If you’re playing it loud on headphones, it’s mildly annoying.)
