Friends,

I was about to post a conversation episode this week, but I could sense that people are feeling particularly tense/frightened/angry/anxious. And I see people already giving terrible advice about it – whether it’s doomsday prepping, pseudo-revolutionary posturing, or fascist “spiritual” indications.

So I’ve decided to create a series of episodes to offer a little help. These episodes come from some of what I began to understand in making my Up From Ruins lecture last year.

This is part one in a short series of episodes on figuring out – from a spiritual rather than materialist starting point – how to live in our moment.

It contains two basic spiritual exercises, as well as some insights on how to get your bearings. In a following episode, we’ll be looking at how to live in a spiritual way in devastation… and also how to not just feed into fears of devastation, since it’s not inevitable.

I hope this offers some real direction forward for you, and helps you avoid the pitfalls of materialism, especially spiritual materialism.

Below are some quotes from the episode.

“Love is the begining of life, truth is the end of life. That which moves in between and gives form to things is wisdom…. Truth cannot be told. It must be lived. Truth is the fruit of the entire life.”

“Surrendering your will to Divine Will has become an increasingly popular esoteric concept (but) surrendering or unifying your will with Divine Will takes WORK. You only become ‘empty’ of yourself by becoming deeply full of yourself or — integrated, coherent, embodied… these states are not achieved through avoidance but by being willing to engage yourself and Life in a way that demands devotion, humility, and sincerity.”
