Friends,
Welcome to the second episode in my series, A NEW SPIRITUAL SOCIETY. On the first episode, AEWCH 317, I gave an introduction to the series, and a short review of the inspiration for it, Rudolf Steiner’s concept of social threefolding, which understands human activity as living in three spheres – culture, politics, and economics.

For the next three episodes, I’ll be looking at those spheres and the “spiritual heart” of each, so that we can start to renew, rethink, and revitalize the social organism.

I start on this episode, with CULTURE.

Contrary to the picture of culture being a whimsical ornament on politics or the economy, culture is an essential aspect of being human, and where the real action of our lives always takes place.

But what is culture, really, in our time? What are we being called to do and how are we being called to see it so that we can begin to strengthen it?

Along the way, I bring in some other voices to help: Susan Sontag, Giles Deleuze, Grant Morrison, Rick Rubin, and more.

My exploration has led me to understand that for us to strengthen culture, we must see it as an individual project. We think of culture collectively because when we develop, that development expresses itself publicly.

So what is that project?

Let’s consider it together, friends.

Looking forward to this new spiritual society with you,
CH
